Dragobrat Ski Resort : Reaching the Peak of Carpathian mountains

The ski resort Dragobrat is located in the Zakarpattia Oblast (Ukraine). Dragobrat is currently the highest ski resort in Ukraine. Simultaneously, this resort gives you an opportunity to ski almost till May, as the climate here is quite special.

It is located at an altitude of 1400m, at the junction of coniferous forests and a zone of alpine meadows at the foot of Mount Stog (1707m) near the mountain range Bliznitsa (1883m). Natural snow cover is guaranteed because of the considerable height and unique climate.

Dragobrat is located 18 km from the village of Yasynia (Rakhiv rayon, Zakarpattya oblast') in the Svydovets mountain range.

Learning to skate

I guess the main purpose of visiting a ski resort with a mountain is to ride snow boards, ski and, of course, view the beauty in God's creation.

I didn't have the complete snow boarding tools, so we rented a snowboard, riding boots and paid for a teacher.

Snowboarding boarding Is one of the hardest sports I have tried of recent. I followed the instructor but my fear of falling was bigger than my strength at the moment.

It was so cold and I could hardly feel my hands; at some point I started feeling pain. Anyways, I didn't get to learn to skate, but I am hoping to go for ski classes. I guess it's much easier than snow boarding. I felt I was being punished riding a snow board.

The team.

A fun partner/group is a key factor to a fun-filled travel. The Ridetravelua travel team was dope. So much fun with lots of activities, though the guys couldn't let go of their snowboards but generally it was a good trip.

Peak of the Carpathians mountain

I suddenly developed love for mountain climbers. After Seeing different movies and videos on youtube about those who made it to the everest summit. I was totally inspired by their determination and zeal.
The Carpathian Mountains are considered to be the Green Pearl of Ukraine. It is one of the most popular resorts and tourist centers in the country. A beautiful mix of natural areas, forests, meadows, shepherds and humans living in harmony with nature is what makes the mountains so Attractive to tourists! An original nature of territory, beauty of its Alpine meadows and woods, rough rivers and mountain lakes, soft climate, curative mineral sources, the historical and architectural monuments can attract everyone to themselves. Thousands of tourists and people who like travel and adventures come here. The Ukrainian Carpathians are relatively gentle peaks that rise as high as 2061 m (Mt. Hoverla). The largest resorts are located in Slavsko, Bukovel, Tysovets, and Dragobrat.

Getting to the top of the mountain can be achieved by climbing by foot or using a lift ride. The very first time I got to the top of the Carpathians, I was so afraid and could hardly stand.

The second time I went with my team, we got to the peak of the mountain and Everything looked so magical. God created a lot of beautiful things and I am glad he did.

We took photos at the peak of the mountain but I was so conscious of slipping because any little mistake can be history.

( Below is a photo of me with the Ukrainian flag at the peak of the Carpathians.)

Dragobrat Free ride center (Free-ride Драгобрату).

This most popular place for extra-riding skiing in Ukraine. It has a large number of tracks and lifts; there are large areas for riding on the whole directly within the resort, and especially beyond the limits of the resort. This is a relatively good place in terms of avalanche security.

Dressing: This is an extremely cold region.

Part of the thrill of skiing and snowboarding is enjoying the crisp winter air. Dressing properly ensures you stay warm and comfortable, no matter the weather. Follow these essential layering tips for the best experience on the slopes.

1. Dress in Layers

Layering helps regulate your body temperature as conditions change. A combination of moisture-wicking, insulating, and waterproof layers is key.

2. Base Layer (Moisture-Wicking)

  • Wear long underwear or tights to keep moisture away from your skin.

3. Mid Layer (Insulation)

  • Opt for a warm collared shirt, turtleneck, sweater, or fleece to trap heat.

4. Outer Layer (Weather Protection)

  • Choose a water- and wind-resistant jacket with a high collar.

  • Wear waterproof ski or snow pants for full protection. Jeans are acceptable only if you bring an extra dry pair—avoid sweatpants as they soak up moisture.

5. Essential Accessories

  • Gloves or mittens – Mittens are warmer, but gloves offer more flexibility. Always choose waterproof options.

  • High socks – One pair is enough; avoid thick seams for comfort.

  • Eye protection – Sunglasses or goggles shield against glare and wind.

  • A warm hat—Covering your ears is a must. If your feet are cold, wearing a hat helps!

  • Sunscreen & lip balm (SPF 15+)—Snow reflects sunlight, so protect your skin, even on cloudy days.

6. Extra Tips

  • Ensure pants are wide enough at the bottom to fit over ski boots.

  • Pack extra clothes to change into for the ride home.

By following these tips, you’ll be well-prepared to enjoy the slopes while staying warm, dry, and comfortable. Happy skiing and snowboarding!

How to get to Dragobrat?

Distance to the airport—125 km (Ivano-Frankivsk), to the railway station—12 km. Please, notice that the way to get to the resort is quite complicated. There are 2 mountain roads (the length of one of them is 9 km, the other is 18 km), both in poor condition. Due to the poor condition of the roads, off-road cars are widely used. You have to take a local transport from Yasynia and drive by the rough and bumpy road to Dragobrat.

Food

Looking for one of the best restaurants around Dragobrat to eat very good Ukrainian dishes? then visit Hotel Adrenalin.
